In this beginner-focused workshop, students will learn the basics of hand stitching. This will include useful stitches for clothing repair, such as running stitch, backstitch, and whipstitch. Basic embroidery stitches will also be taught, including chain stitch, stem stitch, and satin stitch. We will review the tools needed for stitching. Completed examples of each type of stitch will be provided for the class to view and to take inspiration from. Cost of the workshop includes instruction, fabric samples for learning basic stitches, embroidery hoop, various threads, and hand sewing needles.

About the Instructor: Lauren is an interdisciplinary artist working in textiles and printmaking. Their primary areas of interest are sewing, visible mending, weaving with natural materials, and linoleum and rubber block printmaking.
