Event: Vermont's Natural Communities

Led by: Liz Thompson, Co-Author of Wetland, Woodland, Wildland, A Guide to the Natural Communities of Vermont

Date: Sunday, April 30, 2023

Time: 10 AM - 12 PM

Cost: Complimentary, space is limited. Registration in advance required

Liz Thompson will talk about Vermont’s Natural Communities, and how they can inform us about native plants that thrive in Vermont. We will wander Horsford's grounds, thinking about what might have been growing here in Charlotte 300 years ago, and talking about some of the nursery’s available native plants and how they fit into our natural landscape.

This workshop will be held outdoors in Horsford's botanical gardens with some walking. There is an open-air, historic barn with seating in case of rain.

About the workshop leader: Liz Thompson is a conservation ecologist and botanist living in Jericho. Vermont. She co-authored Wetland, Woodland, Wildland, A Guide to the Natural Communities of Vermont. For 20 years she taught Field Botany and Ecology at the University of Vermont. Liz’s current favorite pastime is walking in nature with a camera, finding the beauty in small and ordinary things.
