Kentucky Coffeetree is not widely known but it is tough and adaptable enough to make a fine replacement for our plagued elm and ash trees. This stately tree suffers from ugly duckling syndrome - when young it appears decidedly like the metaphorical "stick in a bucket" but with age it assumes a most stately form similar to our nostalgic elms. Large, double-pinnate leaves are truly awesome and lend an almost tropical appearance. 'Espresso' is a male selection so it does not produce messy seed pods.
