A tough little native plant that thrives on barren, infertile sites with full sun. This drought tolerant shrub produces showy white flower panicles in summer that are adored by many pollinators and seeds that are consumed by birds. Like other plants adapted to infertile soils, New Jersey Tea fixes nitrogen - one of the few non-leguminous plants to do so. Legend has it this is the "tea" that held over the colonists after they famously dumped the British imports overboard.
