This edible fig, also known as 'Bensonhurst Purple', is one of the hardiest edible figs. The roots, hardy to -20°F, will sustain the Vermont winter with a healthy heap of mulch if planted in the right microclimate of your garden. It could also be container-grown and overwintered in a cool place indoors. A bounty of fruit grows on new wood when it resprouts in the spring.
