Our native holly, grown from seed. This species is dioecious, so both a male and female plant are required to produce berries. Well worth the effort, winterberries are a superior addition to the winter landscape. Good plant for pollinators, and birds as well. Ilex verticillata is extremely hardy and gracefully handles a wide variety of challenging conditions like clay and permanent wet sites, which also makes it a choice selection for rain gardens.
