A truly unique species that is underutilized in our area. As a wetland specialist, it can tolerate heavy, poorly drained soils, and can even live in standing water, however it is also just fine on drier sites and even does well in urban settings. One of the few deciduous conifers, needles turn russet-red before dropping in fall. Prefers acidic soil conditions.
