Beaked hazelnut is very similar to our other native hazelnut, Corylus americana, in almost all attributes, though not as tolerant of heavy clay soils. Dense suckering habit is good for screening and handsome fall foliage is usually noteworthy. Nuts are edible but perhaps best left for the wildlife. May be partially self fertile but best to plant two if reliable crops are desired.
