A tough and adaptable native tree, basswood is prized by beekeepers for the honey produced from its nectar. The flowers are sweet smelling and are followed by pendulous nutlets that are good for wildlife. The tree itself is fast growing and can handle all manner of soils, including high pH and clay. Can become quite large with time so plant with plenty of space in mind.
