Leatherwood is a shade loving native shrub that is great for naturalizing in heavy shade and/or wet areas. Small yellow flowers emerge in early spring and provide early season nectar to native bees. Small green fruits develop in summer and Fall foliage is yellow. CAUTION: The fruit is not edible for humans and the resin emitted from broken stems can cause skin irritation.
