'Chestnut' is very hardy and produces good crops of flowers and fruit annually, which makes it a great pollinator for northern orchardists. The small apples (or large crabapples) are about 2" and develop a sweet nutty flavor that is good for eating fresh or making into preserves. This apple is also popular with cider makers and shows good disease resistance to common apple afflictions.
