Lonicera sempervirens is a native honeysuckle vine that is adaptable to a large range of growing conditions, including clay. It has a long bloom time with showy tubular flowers. ‘John Clayton’ is a yellow-flowered variety that was found in 1991 in woodlands on the grounds of a 17th century church in Gloucester, Virginia. Profuse yellow blooms are attractive to pollinators and some reblooming is common. Mild pleasing fragrance.
